Why Duraboard?
Low maintenance & built to last: The exterior is crafted from Fibre-cement board. Unlike wood, Duraboard does not need to be treated, stained, or painted every year. Warm, natural, classic - but without the problems that real wood brings (rotting, warping, constant painting).
Customisable to your needs: Choose from over 50 different size dimensions to maximise your available garden space. If you have a specific vision in mind, just ask as we can often accomodate.
Strong, secure construction: Each building is framed with heavy-duty timber and fitted with a breathable membrane barrier. A concrete base is required (and the team can help design or install it).
Flexible use - create your own space: Whether you want one open room or a building with a separate store/utility section (thanks to optional internal partitioning), the choice is yours. Use it as a gym, home office, kids’ playroom, music or hobby studio, or garden lounge.
Below are some examples of our most popular sizes and styles, each shown with two indicative prices. The lower figure represents the cost of the basic unit (as shown in the photographs) and excludes the concrete base, internal fit-out and any optional extras. The higher figure is a guide price for a fully finished building including the concrete base and a complete internal fit-out such as electrics, insulation, plastering, painting and flooring. Please note that for customers who are interested in purchasing one of our garden rooms a site visit is required.

The vast majority of buildings we install are exempt from planning under Class 3 of the General Exempted Development provisions of the planning regulations. 25 square metres (270 Sq ft) or under built to the side or rear of your house generally qualify for an exemption from planning permission once an area of 25 square metres remains in your garden and the building is used to enhance the family lifestyle.
For any build where it is going to be used for living purposes, it will require planning, and this is up to the homeowner to organise.
Ultimately it is the sole responsibility of the homeowner to be aware of the planning exemption and we would recommend that you familiarise yourself with the exemption rules or contact your local planning authority.

Barna Buildings do offer a full base laying service, however should you decide to lay your own base, it is essential you obtain exact dimensions and base specifications from Barna Buildings.

The windows and doors we use are double-glazed uPVC. We have chosen the material uPVC as the best balance between cost and performance. uPVC windows provide a high degree of performance and warmth. While aluminium windows are structurally good and have a thermal break detail, aluminium remains a highly conductive material and compromises performance.
The Duraboard windows are all customised and manufactured to ordered and you can discuss the size requirements for your build. Our windows are A+ rated double glazed.
The concrete buildings come with a choice of 2 window sizes 1000mm x 900mm and 500mm x 900m. These windows come in white as standard.

Our roofing system utilizes high-performance box profile steel sheets integrated with an anti-condensation barrier. To ensure maximum building longevity, we incorporate a ventilated air gap followed by a secondary breathable membrane underlay. This dual-layer approach optimizes thermal performance and provides superior protection against interstitial condensation.

No, all our Garden Rooms are built as standalone buildings and are constructed separately to the house. You cannot attach any of our Garden Rooms to an existing building.

Barna have just finished our garden room and we could not be happier with the finished result, we worked alongside Danny from the start who was an absolute gentleman and answered any questions we had along the way, he met up with our landscapers on multiple occasions while we got our back garden done to make sure we had the right space and things in place for when Barna arrived to build.
The whole process was seamless, stress free from start to finish all thanks to Danny. We must mention the lads who arrived for the first 2 days of the build, the were on time, professional and most of all really, really nice to deal with, the same must be said for the plasterers, electricians, painters and lads who laid the floors.
We could not recommend Barna enough if you’re looking for a garden room or just looking for a little bit of extra space, they have a great team in place and everyone seems to work together really well.
